Art as Social Commentary / Paste-up Poster

Students learned about the artwork of Barbara Kruger and other artists who delve into social justice issues. They were then tasked with creating a paste-up poster that critiques consumerism while utilizing the Postmodern Principles of Appropriation and the Interaction of Image and Text. Students used Google Docs to manipulate found images and combined them with text to create the messages for their posters. This project enabled students to enhance their critical thinking skills and develop their personal voice about a social justice topic.
